Gardens in Cambridgeshire
Cambridge is a lively city full of pubs, museums and very well-known for its university, but did you know it was surrounded by beautiful scenery and green spaces? Not only does the city have its own magnificent gardens, but the county of Cambridgeshire is also home to many botanical wonders. Let’s not lose any more time and dive into the best spots for your walks when touring in Cambridgeshire!
Beechwoods Nature Reserve
Located at a 20 minutes’ drive from Cambridge’s city centre, the Beechwoods Nature Reserve is a 10 hectares property free for access. Let yourself go with the sights and sound of the trees of the reserve. The reserve is protected by The Wildlife Trusts, a strong protector of the natural environment, particularly in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. If you have time, we suggest taking their workshop on the local wildlife located in the reserve.

Wandlebury Country Park
Situated south of Cambridge, the Wandlebury country park is near Cambridge city centre, (only a 12 minute drive) and is the ideal site for a family walk, picnic or BBQ. Opened 365 days a year, the park offers lovely walks through woodland and wildflower meadows. With one of the most diverse ranges of tree species in Cambridgeshire, Wandlebury is home to a host of multiple rare species. With trees older than 300 years old, you’ll be able to switch off and observe the wildlife.
The park hosts many events throughout the year, from volunteer work parties to organized walks.

Coton Countryside Reserve
Located near Coton village, the Coton Countryside Reserve combines nature, public access, and a working farm. Developed from the 1930’s, the reserve aims to fight pollution coming from the city and limit urban’s space’s presence. Coton countryside is made for everyone and has easy access for cyclists, horse riders and wheelchairs. The reserve has a variety of lowland countryside habitats including ponds or hedgerows. Coton Countryside preserves as much as possible the surrounding environment and continues to watch over the ongoing maturation of the reserve’s habitats. If you get the chance to visit the reserve, try walking up to Red Meadow Hill where the stunning sceneries and views of the Cambridgeshire County are to die for!

Cambridge University Botanic Garden
Home to over 8,000 species, Cambridge University Botanic Garden is a must-do in Cambridge. At a 10-minutes walking distance from Clayton Hotel Cambridge, the garden is the optimal spot for successful autumnal walks. Whether you visit Cambridge by yourself, with friends or family, or with your significant other, you’ll love to observe their immense horticultural collection. Originally used by the Cambridge University faculty, the garden used to grow plants as teaching material for medical students. Now open to the public, you can choose to visit the garden by yourself or with a guide on a walking tour. For those of you who have a green thumb, you’ll love to stop by the garden shop, where they offer a great selection of pots, planters, and garden ornaments.

Peckover House and Garden
Last but not least, the Peckover House and Garden. An hour’s drive away from Cambridge city centre, the garden is a hidden gem in the heart of Cambridgeshire. From the Victorian-style gardens to the Georgian house formerly home of the Peckover family, you are guaranteed to love this place. If you are a fan of roses, then stop searching you’ve found what you were looking for! With over 10 listed species of roses and historical unknown roses, you will feel like jumping back in time. Full of history and anecdotes, the Peckover House is a go-to place.
